Capturing a special moment in Tasmania’s colonial history, dated from 1870 each cottage has a theme dictated by its past. Three restored 19th century buildings have been transformed into four sophisticated, self-contained cottages.
Nestled in the sheltered waters of Macquarie Harbour, the town was originally established as a port, first for the mining operators and later, when those settlements became little more than ghost towns, for the booming fishing industry.
Today, Strahan offers world-class wilderness experiences as the gateway to the endlessly stunning Southwest Wilderness and World Heritage areas. The wilderness abounds with flora and fauna and smells of a primeval forest.
Within the harbour lies Sarah Island, on which the first penal settlement in Tasmania was established in 1822.
The fully self-contained accommodation at Strahan Colonial Cottages provides an excellent place to relax, recharge and unwind.
Located only a few minutes walk from the town center, our cottages put all of Strahan’s wonderful qualities right at your fingertips. We look forward to meeting you, and hope you enjoy your stay in beautiful Strahan!
