A conference for historians from Australia and New Zealand will be held on Norfolk Island from 18-25 July 2010.
This will be on the eve of the World Heritage Convention’s decision to include Kingston and Arthurs Vale on Norfolk Island and 10 other Australian convict sites on the World Heritage List.
Every historian will find much of interest in the conference on Norfolk Island in July. There will be 30 wide-ranging lectures by speakers from the UK, New Zealand, Noumea, as well as every Australian state.
Topics include heritage tourism, the politics of history, a re-appraisal of convict history, turning history into a novel, other Pacific islands. It’s an involving program, with well-known writers like Richard White and Babette Smith taking part.

The conference will include site visits, island orientation and free time to explore the diverse heritage of the island.
There will be time to talk about professional issues with a mentor during the conference period. Along with time to network with other historians and leran about their research and business.
There will be seven major keynote lectures as well as more than twenty shorter papers presented in the four days of intensive conferencing. The rest of the week you can relax and enjoy the idyllic island environment.
